Fantastic introduction for beginner player December 9, 2007 David Hinman (Portland OR) If you are like me, and almost a complete beginner at poker, this is the best poker software I've seen. It's taught me, almost without me knowing it, the importance:
1) Pot odds
2) Knowing your opponent's betting profile
3) Putting your opponent on a range of hands
I realized recently in the shower that the game has been forcing me to learn many of the things the books said I needed but was too lazy to actually learn.
To sum up, a fantastic tool for total beginners like me.
Saves you money starting out. Good training tool. November 17, 2007 Mark (USA) First off I should say that I've only used the ring limit portion of this software extensively as that's my game. I purchased this product some time back because I was new and wanted to play a better game before playing for money. I'd say it certainly saved me some cash as opposed to having to do my learning at the table. The bots do play pretty well. However you will notice differences when you play humans. Don't therefore expect to crush real games just because you've got good at this. It's just a good runway to playing for real. I recommend this product for people starting to play. I believe that if you use it wisely it will save you a lot of cash by letting you make your mistakes in a safer environment. Internet play money games don't do this as they don't replicate the game play of a real money table. This is closer to what you can expect, so worth investing time in. And it will mean you're a much better player when you come to put your money on the table. If you already play for cash and are playing reasonably sound poker then I suspect this may not really help you much, but the analysis tools remain useful for simulations and checking scenarios later to see if you made the best play etc. so it's probably still worth the money just for that.
The best poker trainer I have seen October 16, 2007 Water Monkey (Santa Clarita, Ca.) I have the standard version 2.5 and I will say this trainer/game is great. It has improved my game to levels that I could have only reached in playing online or in many tournaments. The standard set of games and tournaments is plaenty to get you started and the flexibilty to create you own is great.
I like the ability to look at your stats for each game or overall to see what trends you notice in your game. My only gripe is that if you do not win a tournament the standard version only shows you how much $$$ you won (if you finished in the money) and not where you placed (that is available in the Pro version for $100 more). I find it more helpful to know I placed 23rd in a 1000 person tournament than I won $500 and played 203 hands.
But overall if you want to improve your game, go with this. You won't be disappointed.
Not very realistic for no limit August 6, 2006 Isaak (Denver, CO) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been playing online for some time now, mostly at full tilt. I honestly don't think this software emulates the action at any ring game I've ever sat down at. The all ins are actually quite funny to watch, one bot trying to outraise the other in a match over the oddest card selections. I don't know how many times my three of a kind (two of which are on the board one is my hole card) is called down when the bots are holding pocket pairs lower than the pair on the board. I hoped this was going to be a useful tool for my arsenal, but alas it is merely a waste of time. Maybe my standards are too high. I do not recommend this to anyone wanting to learn how to play top notch poker. I'm not a winning player online but closer to breakeven (with bonuses) but I was able to master all of the levels within a couple of hours, which I did not expect to be able to do, maybe the pro version is better but you won't see me reducing my bankroll to upgrade with this. I would rather spend my money on books and keep playing real people, I think a hundred bucks at a card table with any common sense whatsoever is worth way more in experience than this program.
Poker School is in Session! January 19, 2006 Troy L. Hall (Houston, USA) This excellent software is appropriate for all skill levels. The support is excellent and goes out of their way to listen, solve problems, satisfy their customers, and continuously improve the product.
If your already a poker legend in your own mind... maybe pass.. maybe?
Forums and and Live Online Games (rankings kept and upper level games not revealed until earned) make this Software that much more Better!
