Product Description Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 03/24/2009 Run time: 105 minutes Rating: G
Amazon.com essential video Neil Simon's terribly funny play about roommates Oscar the slob and Felix the neurotic was first committed to film in this 1968 production, directed by Gene Saks (Barefoot in the Park). Perfectly timed, ingeniously rendered, not a hair out of place in the history-making performances of Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon (or the great support cast), The Odd Couple is a movie that one just has to see every two or three years to stay happy. The poker-game sequence in which Oscar's cronies seem to be falling under the sway of fussy Felix's talent for making sandwiches is priceless. --Tom Keogh

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau!!!!! February 24, 2010 JOELLEN REEVES (MS) What else can I say? They keep going and going and going and get funnier all the time. Got to have it!
Not funny, not believable February 24, 2010 Marconi guy (Kennett Square, PA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This adaptation of the play hasn't worn at all well over the years. The movie was directed and filmed much as if it were still on stage, using the peculiar and somewhat stilted projection-style of acting that is deemed necessary in most stage productions. Neither Matthau nor Lemmon or any of the supporting cast are especially believable. The scenes are overdone and not funny. The characters all come across as actors playing a part and never cross the line into people we care about. Lemon's character is so overdone that he is the least believable of the group. It's difficult to understand why this film gets such praise in 2010.
In my top 10 for funny movies. February 14, 2010 F. Gutt (Lexington, MO) If you are a "Native New Yawker" you will really understand this movie. It reminds me of my father and uncles when they used to get together for poker. If you get Jackie Mason's humor, you'll love this movie. Rated "G" when released I would rate this "PG" by today's standards. No overt sexual situations or foul language. I would hate to see it ruined with a new remake today. I've seen this movie many times and still laugh at the same jokes. The Odd Couple is timeless.
Greatest Comedy On Film Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!! December 12, 2009 Gregory Viollt (Chicago) This movie is simply the most outstanding comedy of alltime. Almost every moment is filled with side splitting laughter. Jack Lemmon once again makes it seem like he is not even acting and Walter Mathau plays off the straight man perfectly in every scene. This is not just a film, it is a work of art which is rare in the movie industry.
Only the best! September 23, 2009 Barbie 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
One of Neil Siomon's best - if not the best- comedy ever! Classic Jack Lemmon and Walter Matheau! After viewing the VHS over and over I finally had to buy the DVD, as I had worn out the tape! Great comic timing, wonderful cast! And the extra DVD with commentary by those who are still with us, is insightful. Makes you feel part of the whole thing. I STILL reach for this film on a dull day, and STILL laugh out loud! Thanks always - Neil Simon, cast and crew!
