A nice finale, but you don't absolutely need it. April 13, 2009 curtiswash (Minnesota, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There are poker books that you need and poker books that are nice to have. Volumes I and II are in the need category. This book? Well, it's nice to have. The reason for this is that the book is essentially a way to get a more specific and real life look at the things that Harrington talks about in the first two volumes. As a result, you could ostensibly never purchase this book and not miss anything in terms of new information.
What actually comprises the new information in this book is actually the application of the concepts like the use of M in making decisions or applying structure hand analysis. Additionally, his examples of real life hands between top poker players offers some incredible insights into the minds of great poker players, and as a side benefit really makes watching TV poker afterwards that much more fun.
Additionally, the workbook style is a pretty useful structure to help solidify all the previous ideas into a cohesive form. After all the information that Harrington delivers in the first two volumes, a third book to help bring it all home might be a necessity. Still, though, if you had only $25 to buy a book to round out your poker library, and you already had the first two, I might suggest a few alternatives that would provide a few more new insights.
That being said, if it is useful to you to see the way that Harrington's brilliant poker principles are put into practice in real world situations, with some of the best poker players in the world at the table to serve as examples (let's be honest, that sounds pretty good)...well, again, it's a nice book to have.
If Everyone is reading it, what's the use? January 18, 2009 Timur Ivannikov (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a useful book that will help you to analyze tough decisions and think ahead to hopefully avoid the tough decisions. Read the book, improve your game but don't count on making a lot of money... Breaking even is probably what you should expect online if you score above 400 on the questions.
Excelent book for real money poker January 15, 2009 LeandroK (Finland) Hello there guys, I recently bought from Amazon all three volumes of Harrington on Hold'em. They are an excellent reference for both begginers and middle to advanced players. Throughout the 3 books it covers a lot of subjects focused on tournament play but that can be also applied to ring games. It does not get into deep mathematic stuff as others book i've seen when subjects like pot odds and expectation are explained, so it's quite easy to follow. I highly recommend these products.

Leandro
If you like to play conservative, you need this book! January 6, 2009 Todd Hagopian (Michigan) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Harrington is a conservative poker genius! I will say upfront, if you are an aggressive player, you will not like this book. However, if you are trying to figure out how to win large tournaments or satellite tables, this book is a must-own for you!
I loved how Harrington put in a ton of situational questions that allow you to test your ability to master the skills taught in this book. Take your time and try to get these questions right, it will pay off in the long run.
By the time I was halfway through reading this book, I noticed a huge difference in where I was placing in online and video game tournaments. I have ordered his second book, and am getting ready to read it now. A lot of the first book's sections tell you to read the second book, and I would recommend it for any experienced player.
If you are a newbie to the game, this book will put you in a fantastic position to have a heads up on your friends. If you are experienced, this book will give you way more information than you can ever use, but you can pick and choose what to apply in your game.
You absolutely will be a better player after reading this book!
Enjoy!
Excellent, this book will help your game March 20, 2008 M. Montag This series (I own all three) is very well written. Volume three is the workbook, which essentially a book-length quiz that you then grade yourself on, but it is very well done. I was able to identify weaknesses in my game and improve. Highly recommended.
I say spend the money and get all three volumes. Your purchase will pay for itself very quickly.
