Product Description Jesus, Moses, the Buddha, and other great teachers were born with brains built essentially like anyone else s. Then they used their minds to change their brains in ways that changed history.With the new breakthroughs in neuroscience, combined with the insights from thousands of years of contemplative practice, you, too, can shape your own brain for greater happiness, love, and wisdom. Buddha's Brain joins the forces of modern science with ancient teachings to show readers how to have greater emotional balance in turbulent times, as well as healthier relationships, more effective actions, and a deeper religious or spiritual practice. Well-referenced and grounded in science, the book is full of practical tools and skills readers can use in daily life to tap the unused potential of the brain and rewire it over time for greater peace and well-being. If you can change your brain, you can change your life.

Option A September 3, 2010 qdmt (Brunswick, GA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very pleased with this well produced book. Purposefully written so the reader can learn a little and/or a lot and feel full. The writing has a brightness about it that moved this reader through science as if we had always been old friends (so not the case!). The exercises are well supported and seem reasonable to do. The layout contributes to an easy read for a subject which turns out to be simple in a unique way.
A practical handbook in how to use your mind to change your brain August 29, 2010 Sherold Barr Kaib 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Buddha's Brain is a practical handbook on how to use your mind to change your brain. It is a perfect blend of Buddhism mixed with brain science. Dr. Hanson has written an easy-to-read book that describes how we are wired and shows us how we can use our mind to change our brain, which he calls self-directed neuroplasticity. I have used practices from this book over and over again with my clients.
I highly recommend this book.
All people, all problems, this is the book. August 7, 2010 Lainee Smith 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Rick Hanson has combined the essential principles of neuroscience and Buddhist philosophy to explain what is happening in our body and mind in every moment of our lives. No book has been more helpful to me than his. To read and understand what he has written is to advance far along the path of what's needed to live a productive and satisfying life.
With Buddha's Brain . . . July 29, 2010 Alan Nordstrom (Winter Park, FL USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
WITH BUDDHA'S BRAIN . . .
Your neural networks you'll retrain;
In time you'll learn not to complain;
You'll modulate distress and pain;
Strife and anger you'll disdain;
From old addictions you'll abstain
And slowly grow kind and humane,
Finding in time how to be sane,
And last--enlightenment attain.

Buddha's Brain offers practical advice for cultivating happiness, love, compassion, and wisdom. The book combines Psychology and Neuroscience with Buddhist philosophy, a true triumph of "East meets West." I highly recommend this book to people who want to raise their consciousness about personal relationships and spiritual growth.
